1. Purpose
Alissar’s Kitchen is committed to operating responsibly and sustainably, while maintaining high standards of ethical business practice. We recognise our responsibility to minimise our environmental impact, support fair and responsible trading practices, and ensure that our suppliers and business partners share our commitment to ethical standards.
This policy sets out the principles that guide how Alissar’s Kitchen operates, purchases goods and services, selects suppliers, and manages its environmental and social responsibilities.
2. Environmental Responsibility
Alissar’s Kitchen is committed to reducing the environmental impact of its operations wherever reasonably practicable.
We will:
· Reduce waste through responsible purchasing, stock management, portion control, recycling and reuse.
· Minimise food waste by monitoring stock levels, storage conditions, use-by dates and production requirements.
· Separate and recycle appropriate waste wherever suitable recycling facilities are available.
· Avoid unnecessary packaging and, where practical, favour recyclable, reusable or responsibly sourced packaging.
· Consider the environmental impact of products and suppliers when making purchasing decisions.
· Use energy and water responsibly and seek opportunities to improve efficiency.
· Maintain equipment appropriately to ensure efficient operation and reduce unnecessary energy consumption.
· Comply with applicable environmental legislation and relevant local authority requirements.
· Encourage employees to adopt environmentally responsible working practices.
· Consider opportunities to reduce emissions associated with deliveries, transportation and procurement.
3. Sustainable Purchasing
Where commercially and operationally practical, Alissar’s Kitchen will consider sustainability when selecting products and suppliers.
Preference may be given to suppliers and products that:
· Demonstrate responsible environmental practices.
· Minimise unnecessary packaging.
· Use sustainably sourced ingredients or materials where appropriate.
· Can demonstrate responsible sourcing and supply-chain practices.
· Reduce unnecessary transportation or delivery impacts.
· Provide clear information about the origin and production of their products.
· Maintain appropriate food safety, quality and traceability standards.
Environmental considerations will be balanced with food safety, quality, availability, customer requirements and reasonable commercial considerations.
4. Ethical Trading
Alissar’s Kitchen is committed to conducting business fairly, honestly and responsibly.
We expect our suppliers, contractors and business partners to operate in accordance with applicable laws and recognised ethical standards.
We will not knowingly engage with businesses that use:
· Forced, bonded or involuntary labour.
· Child labour in breach of applicable law.
· Human trafficking or exploitative employment practices.
· Discrimination, harassment or abusive workplace practices.
· Unsafe working conditions where appropriate safeguards should reasonably be in place.
We expect workers involved in our supply chain to be treated with dignity and respect and, where applicable, to receive lawful wages and appropriate working conditions.
5. Human Rights and Modern Slavery
Alissar’s Kitchen has zero tolerance for modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour and other forms of exploitation.
We will take reasonable steps to understand and manage the risk of modern slavery within our supply chain, particularly where products or services are sourced from higher-risk sectors or regions.
Where concerns are identified, we will investigate them appropriately and may require corrective action or reconsider the commercial relationship.
6. Fair and Responsible Supplier Relationships
Alissar’s Kitchen aims to build professional, respectful and mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers.
We will:
· Communicate honestly and professionally with suppliers.
· Make purchasing decisions based on legitimate commercial, quality, ethical and operational considerations.
· Avoid deliberately misleading suppliers or business partners.
· Honour agreed contractual and payment terms wherever reasonably possible.
· Raise concerns with suppliers openly and give them an appropriate opportunity to address issues where corrective action is practical.
7. Food and Ingredient Sourcing
As a food business, Alissar’s Kitchen recognises the importance of responsible ingredient sourcing.
Where practical, we will consider:
· Product provenance and traceability.
· Food safety and quality.
· Responsible sourcing practices.
· Seasonal availability.
· Waste reduction.
· Sustainable sourcing considerations relevant to particular ingredients.
· The environmental and ethical practices of key suppliers.
We will comply with applicable food safety, labelling, traceability and trading requirements.
8. Animal Welfare
Where animal-derived products are purchased, Alissar’s Kitchen will seek, where reasonably practicable, to source from suppliers that follow applicable animal welfare legislation and recognised responsible farming and production practices.
We will consider credible supplier assurances and relevant certification where appropriate to the products being purchased.
9. Anti-Bribery and Corruption
Alissar’s Kitchen does not tolerate bribery, corruption, fraud or other dishonest business practices.
Employees and representatives must not offer, request or accept improper payments, gifts or benefits intended to influence a business decision improperly.
Business decisions must be made fairly and without improper personal or financial influence.
10. Conflicts of Interest
Employees and representatives should avoid situations where personal interests could improperly influence business decisions.
Any potential conflict of interest should be disclosed to the appropriate person within Alissar’s Kitchen so that it can be considered and managed appropriately.
11. Supplier Standards and Due Diligence
Alissar’s Kitchen will take a proportionate approach to assessing suppliers based on the nature and level of risk involved.
For higher-risk or strategically important suppliers, we may request information relating to:
· Environmental policies and practices.
· Employment and labour standards.
· Modern slavery and human trafficking controls.
· Product provenance and traceability.
· Relevant certifications or accreditations.
· Health and safety practices.
· Compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Where a supplier does not meet the standards expected by Alissar’s Kitchen, we may request an improvement plan, suspend purchasing, or terminate the relationship depending on the seriousness of the issue.
12. Employees and Responsibilities
All employees and representatives of Alissar’s Kitchen are expected to support this policy and act responsibly in their day-to-day work.
Management is responsible for:
· Promoting awareness of this policy.
· Encouraging responsible purchasing and waste reduction.
· Considering environmental and ethical factors in relevant business decisions.
· Addressing significant concerns relating to suppliers or business practices.
· Reviewing the effectiveness of this policy periodically.
Employees should raise any genuine concerns regarding unethical trading, environmental misconduct, exploitation, modern slavery or other serious breaches of this policy with management.
13. Continuous Improvement
Alissar’s Kitchen recognises that responsible business practices require ongoing improvement.
We will periodically review our environmental and ethical practices and, where reasonably practicable, identify opportunities to:
· Reduce waste and resource consumption.
· Improve sustainable sourcing.
· Strengthen supplier standards.
· Improve environmental performance.
· Increase employee awareness.
· Address emerging ethical and environmental risks.
14. Compliance
Alissar’s Kitchen is committed to complying with all applicable UK legislation and regulatory requirements relating to environmental protection, employment, modern slavery, food safety, trading standards, health and safety and ethical business conduct.
Where this policy sets a higher standard than the minimum legal requirement, Alissar’s Kitchen will seek to follow the principles of this policy wherever reasonably practicable.
15. Review
This policy will be reviewed at least annually, or sooner where there are significant changes to the business, relevant legislation, supply chain or identified environmental and ethical risks.
